Join our hands-on lapidary and metalsmithing community! Big Rapids Lapidary membership gives you weekly access to our studio, premium stones, and all the tools you need to craft your own jewelry, cabochons, and keepsakes. Perfect for beginners, hobbyists, and experienced makers.

Limited memberships available to ensure access to equipment and a quality studio experience.

Single Membership: $95/month
Couple / Family Membership: $160/month (2 people, same household)

Drop-In Rate (Non-Members): $40/hour

Your Studio Access

  • Open Studio Access: 8–12 hours per week, pre-scheduled for lapidary and metalsmithing

  • Equipment Use: All equipment can be used by members, after safety orientation is completed

  • 20% Discount on classes and workshops

  • Project Storage: Personal project boxes for ongoing creations

  • Member Social Nights: Bimonthly relaxed evenings of making, conversation, and community. Member Social Nights are a space to build skills, share ideas, and enjoy the rhythm of hands-on work.

  • Booking Priority: Reserve classes, workshops, and signature experiences before the public

  • Exclusive Stones: Access to our library of stones; premium and limited stone inventory

  • Free Guest Pass: One guest per membership household per month.

Studio Practices

  • Must complete 1 class or workshop prior to membership application

  • Safety First: Complete a studio safety orientation before using machines

  • Reservations Suggested: Reserve machines in advance; walk-on use could be limited.

  • Silver, all metals, findings, not included. Silver is priced at market cost or wholesale cost to members. Other materials like flux, adhesives, torch fuel, disposables, gloves, safety equipment, and more is provided. If students choose to bring their own metals, they do so at their own risk. Our metals are purchased from reputable dealers and are pure metals and align with industry standards for creating fine jewelry

  • Bring Your Own Stones: Approved stones only, or select from our inventory at no extra charge

  • Clean-Up Required: Members must clean equipment and workspaces after use

  • Guest Policy: Only registered members or guests may use the studio

  • Responsible Use: Members will learn the basics of maintenance and responsible use of equipment. Unsafe or abusive use of equipment will not be tolerated

  • Cancellation / Holds: Pause or cancel membership with 30-day written notice
